How does The Organisational Capability Framework™ fit together?

Most organisations don't fail because they do too little. They fail because what they do isn't connected.

This is the overview of how my work fits together: one Journey, five Foundations and four levels. It exists because organisations invest in leadership development, wellbeing programmes, psychosocial risk management and governance improvements separately, and each has value on its own. Value that doesn't add up when nobody connects the parts.

The Organisation Capability Series™: Journey

The Organisation Capability Series™: Journey describes how organisations build capability over time.

  1. Awareness — creating a shared language around psychosocial risks
  2. Understanding — recognising how people experience pressure and adversity
  3. Implementation — translating insight into operational work processes
  4. Integration — embedding it into governance, ISO 45003 and ESG
  5. Continuous strengthening — keeping capability alive when pressure arrives, not only when conditions are calm

Most organisations stop at integration. That is where the harder question begins.

The Foundations: what sustains capability

The Framework rests on five Foundations. They describe the capabilities an organisation already needs, and they work only when they reinforce one another.

1. Organisational signals. What do employees, HR, HSE, wellbeing and managers each see, and does it ever come together?

2. Leadership & accountability. Who owns the response, and can that person act on it?

3. Governance & systems. Is responsibility backed by mandate, independence and authority?

4. Measurement & insight. Can you tell isolated data from patterns, and understand what lies underneath the numbers?

5. Learning & adaptation. Does identifying a problem change how work is designed, led or managed?

The four levels: where the work happens

The Framework works across four levels, in sequence.

How the parts connect

Layer Question it answers
Journey Where are we in building capability?
Foundations What sustains it?
Levels Where does the work happen?

One language from HR to board. Existing policies, finally connected. Leaders who know their role before it is tested. ISO 45003 alignment you can evidence.
