 Toxic Leadership & Trust

Over the past months, conversations around harmful leadership, psychological safety, trust and accountability have raised some important — and sometimes difficult — questions.

Rather than continuing to explore these questions only through articles, I want to create space for professionals to come together, listen to different perspectives and learn from each other.

At the centre of our first conversation will be one question:

When leadership becomes harmful, what should an organisation actually do?

Why this conversation matters

I don't believe psychological safety and psychosocial risk can be addressed effectively as stand-alone initiatives.

They need to become part of how organisations actually work — across leadership, work processes, decision-making, risk management, accountability and governance.

And harmful leadership puts that integration to the test.

When the leader becomes part of the problem, responsibility rarely sits neatly within one function.

HR may see one part.
HSE or Prevention another.
Wellbeing professionals another.
Leadership and governance may see something else again.

This conversation is about bringing those perspectives together.

What to expect

This is not a webinar or a masterclass.

There will be no long presentation and no predetermined answers.

Instead, I will facilitate a 60-minute professional conversation around the experiences, questions and perspectives participants bring to the table.

We will explore questions around harmful leadership, trust, psychological safety, psychosocial risk and organisational accountability — while remaining open to what emerges from the conversation itself.

To make genuine dialogue possible, each session will be limited to approximately 10–15 participants.

Two conversations. One question.

Because I would like to bring together perspectives from different regulatory and organisational contexts, I plan to host two separate sessions.

Oceania Conversation

For professionals based in Australia, New Zealand and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Time reference: September 23th, 7.00 pm - Melbourne, Australia (AEST)
Duration: 60 minutes
Format: Online
Participants: approximately 10–15

European Conversation

For professionals based across Europe and surrounding regions.

Time reference: September 23rd, Belgium (CEST) 3.00 pm  /  UK (BST) - 2:00 pm

Duration: 60 minutes
Format: Online
Participants: approximately 10–15

Both groups will explore the same central question: When leadership becomes harmful, what should an organisation actually do?

Once the groups are confirmed, I will personally send participants the proposed date, time and joining details via a Google Meet invite.

What happens afterwards?

I don't want the conversation to disappear when the meeting ends.

I will bring together the key themes emerging from both sessions and look at:

Where did perspectives converge?
Where did they differ?
What challenged our assumptions?
And which questions still need further investigation?

I will then bring those insights together with relevant research and share the resulting synthesis with the wider community through The Organisational Capability Series™.

The intention is not to turn individual experiences into evidence or to search for a single answer.

It is to use professional dialogue to help us ask better organisational questions.

Executive Insight – The Organisational Capability Journey™

This paper introduces the foundations behind my work on psychological safety, psychosocial risk and the development of sustainable organisational capability.

It provides useful context for the questions we are now exploring together.

Continue the Learning Journey

For professionals who want to go further into the practical application of psychological safety and psychosocial risk, the Sustainable Wellbeing Solutions Academy provides structured learning designed to help translate these principles into organisational practice.

Thank you for contributing your perspective

The quality of this conversation will not come from having all the answers before we begin.

It will come from bringing different experiences, disciplines and perspectives around the same table — and being willing to examine the question together.

I look forward to welcoming you to the conversation.
